Philippe Clement is already drawing up a January transfer window plan to boost Norwich City’s Championship survival prospects.
Clement has replaced Liam Manning at the relegation-threatened Canaries and takes charge of his first game on Saturday at Birmingham.
Sporting director Ben Knapper oversaw a summer strategy that recruited 12 new senior players but City have picked up only nine points from 15 league games.
Knapper made it clear during his midweek media round Norwich will be active, and the focus is on offensive additions. New boss Clement expects a hands on role.
“We’ve already been talking this week about ideas that we can have for the future with some players who can be interesting for the future for the club, and the recruitment team will look at them,” he said. “It’s about working together. Everybody only wants one thing and that is a better result with Norwich. It’s not about themselves. It’s about teamwork.
“That’s also one of the reasons I am here, because, like I said from the beginning, I felt the openness, the honesty and that people want to work together. There are no egos about themselves and their roles. The owners are really engaged with the club. And it’s not a short term thing.
“It’s a massive and important thing, because you see clubs bought and sold in a few years – these owners are not thinking in that way. We will work well together with Ben and with the recruitment team.”
Clement insisted at his official unveiling on Friday it is too early to make judgements on the group he inherited.
“I’m four days in the building, and I stepped in with a clean sheet for everybody,” he said. “I am missing for the moment nine injured players, and I only saw the internationals for one or two days. I’m very convinced after what I saw in the games, and I saw all the games this season, that this squad is not at the place it should be, but there’s work to be done.
“Some of the profiles we like might be in these players that are injured. I also know with some of the squad I wanted to get them to my old team.
“But you can also have really nice surprises with players you didn’t know from before, even with young players coming out of the academy. So let’s make an evaluation. In December we will do it, we will sit together and then see what our targets are for January.”
